my boring friends

i realised that my muso friends and i are a pretty boring lot.

we dont really do much except talk about music, make music and a few chicks on the side. and that’s that.

there’s nothing else in this world worth talking about except for music.

and i am not talking about the wannabe artists who crave for attention, artistic integrity, fame and all that jazz. i am talking about the real people who work behind the scenes perfecting the the pick, the strum, the roll, the touch, the production… i am talking about the people who make My Chemical Romance sound good… and i am not talking the MTV executives who know nothing except to yaketiyak…

i met up with my famous (in production circle) engineer/sound designer twice in succession this week. he is a character of course. a rather large sized man. not much taller than i am. about 175-178m. thick lipped. has curly hair although he is keeping it short. chain smoker. rather bassy voice. and most important of all full beans.

years of work and stress and marriage has not taken his humour away. real musician’s humour.

ironically, i replaced him as the People Association Combo Band. it has been known throughout years that the Band has excellent musicians and groomed them to be better. forgive me if i seem to be trumpeting my own talent which i think i barely have. believe me i am not.

what i would like to prepare you was when i first watch them play at a Community Club at Eunosville, i was in awe. i had never seen a band with such technical excellence and played with such purpose. so when i auditioned as a guitar player, i was really nervous.

i got the gig probably out of sympathy rather than technical excellence and of course my beloved friend’s recommendation. the few years under the tutelage of Mr Azmi gave me a life experience in musicianship and performance. i was formally schooled as guitar player but that experience brought my skill to a whole new level.

again, apologies for my narcisstic rant.

back to my friend. we went through his portfolio. it is rather difficult to explain his body of work except to say that he makes music for cable commercials.

have you seen those in-between clips on cable tv? the clips that appear before and after a main programme? for example mtv is famous for such clips. in fact they’d probably have 5 clips in a row before a programme proper.

alrite i think i have gotten you a bit lost….

theme music for the news at 10? short ad music for cartoon network?

you get?

welcome back…

well that is what he does. from time to time though he would work and record music for various artists but his work is more in commercials.

the thing is we could spend day and night at the studio, just working and spending hours on the music. meanwhile the world around us rotates. oblivious to the outside world…

reckon that’s pathetic enough?
