It was quite chaotic. The staff room was filled with teachers in a hurry. They busy completing their students’ report cards.
Just a few weeks ago, the students had their mid-semestral exams. Everyone’s talking about their class’ performance. Even yesterday morning as I was talking to the principals and head of schools, they were discussing about the students’ overall performance, academic and otherwise.
They don’t seem too worried though but I could see some of them were pretty unhappy that some of their kids didn’t do too well. Such caring teachers they were.
Meanwhile I was sitting at the corner table feeling helpless and out of the loop. I just sat and eavesdrop on some of the conversations that were taking place. That was the best that I could do.
Suddenly there was a burst of anger from a teacher who goes by the name of Ariel.
‘I don’t understand this!’ with thick Aussie accent.
‘What?’ Miss Tay asked.
‘I can’t access my marks and I can’t key in the new ones!’ He bellowed.
‘Why don’t you ask IT?’ she asked again.
‘Ask IT? Are you kidding me? I have told them ages ago and still…’ he was exasperated.
I looked at him and smiled. He returned it with a resigned one. Of course I understood that he didn’t mean it. He is just unhappy. No make it pissed off.
‘How do expect me to work?’ he asked rhetorically.
He looked at me again.
‘Hey,’ my supervisor arrived coincidentally, ‘Let me introduce to you. This is Mr Avloomat.’
We shook hands.
‘Welcome to hell?’ I commented.
‘No buddy you wish you were in it!’
I chuckled.
Hopefully that’s not true. Hopefully that’s not true at all.
