My New Hobby

I have just recently found a new hobby.

GOLF

I know what you are saying.

Nevertheless, prejudices aside it is a sport. People say it’s elitist. I don’t doubt it. People say it’s boring. No doubt. People say it’s an old man’s game. Most probably.

However, I am not one of those people. Even though I have not followed it as fervently as I do football, I have been watching it from a distant and I find it rather fascinating.

Having participated in competitive sports like athletics, football, tennis, and volleyball in my early years, based on my most psychomotor brain part, Golf does have its sporting merits.

The only thing that I see as a setback is how expensive it can be. For that reason alone, I agree with some of the statements above.

But then again, it is your hard earned money.

For most of us who do play it, the wealth that we have didn’t drop from the sky on a rather quiet Sunday on our laps. It is the money that we have acquired through some toiling. Given that it is not exactly coal mining toiling, I do think that I have paid some of my dues in life.

For example, what I earn today is certainly miles more than what I have earned many years ago.

I sound like an old fart don’t I?

So maybe the third statement is true after all.

As for the second one? What else can be more boring than trying to hit and fit a ball twice the size of a walnut into a hole? And for some reason, they place the hole so far that firstly, you can barely see them. In some cases you can’t even see them. Secondly, you have to get all dressed up for it. I mean, I like to dress up but for shooting holes? How ridiculous is that?

Not ridiculous enough for a guy like me it seems.

Maybe I find pleasure in hitting balls and shooting holes. Maybe that is it. That’s the thing that did it for me.

Or maybe it is that one time, when I swing my club, twist my body, and as the head hits the ball, a full pucking sound is made, and then as I follow up on my swing, the ball is ejected from its dormant state and creates a trajectory that it has set for itself based on the movement of the swing and the club and then after a while it lands on the fairway, bouncing and rolling nicely, right in the middle and I sigh in satisfaction.

Though unfortunately it was only that one time, I thought that I was the greatest golfer in the world.

Watch out world! Here comes Tiger Mat!!
