‘You live in a Villa!!??’ her small eyes bulged. Rebecca was her name.
of course i dont live in a villa. i live in a crappy one bedroom, studio apartment. i dont really know the differnce though. it is differnet from country to crountry and even more so from province to province.
in any case, that was her response when i mentioned the street name that i lived in. i wanted to explain to her that all of that wasnt true. and even if i had the money to live in such a place i would not.
why would i need so much space. at most i would go would be 2 rooms.
but it is understandable that she reacted that way. many shanghainese women can only dream of it. even the ones who are better off.
that reaction played in my head again.
this time i could hear the cash register ringing and dollar signs animated on the outskirts of her head. Hell! even the puplis turned into big RMB signs this time round.
that was appropriate considering the fact that we were near the Bund. standing in the majestic colonial French Concession building that housed a club called ‘The Glamour Bar’.
there were two other girls with me. Linda and Jennifer. Of the two, one looked like the upper market socialite and the only reason she actually gave me a hoot is because i was a foreigner. On the other hand, Linda despite her inability to string an actual English sentence, kept smiling at me.
dont get me wrong. it wasnt at me that she was smiling. it was my new lunar hairstyle.
she is cute though. i suspect the other girl Shana who wasnt there yet, in the other taxi wtith the other boys, was fixing her up with me.
those kniving shanghainese women.
it was drizzling. it was pissy rain. there were thunder and lightning.
in the company of such beautiful women, my thoughts were elsewhere in a far away land while my heart has remained in someone else’s.
looking aloof, they probably thought that i was this stuck up foreigner who think that they were beneath the pleasure of my company.
